Hello Everyone,

The year is off to an awesome start.  Thank you to all the volunteers!   I hope everyone who came out to the "sock hop" enjoyed it.  February plans to be a fun filled month.  February 4th our dinner will be Chicken Ala King.  The 18th is our Country Western Night so get out those cowboy boots and hats.   Dinner is Beef Stroganoff.  Valentines Day is Tuesday the 14th so don't forget your sweethearts.  The Sons are doing their COTA dinner on the 25th so make sure to get your tickets.  We have a Past President Parley lunch coming up on the 4th of March so anyone who is a past auxiliary president is invited to join.  The department president Kelly Becraft will be making her official visit this day so make sure to come out and show your support.  We will be having a Mardi Gras party on the 4th of March, come out and enjoy.  We have 4 Publix grocery stores that have agreed to allow us to distribute poppies May 27th and 28th. The sign up sheets will be hung up at the post.  Hope to see all of you around.  For those of you that have asked about our Project Suds fundraiser please read the article below:

PROJECT SUDS

For our numerous new members and those that didn’t know, this article is to enlighten everyone about Project Suds.

Every Thursday morning, from 8:00A.M to 10A.M. just short of four years, Auxiliary members of Ralph W. Sparks American Legion Post 336 have done laundry for homeless Veterans and those down on their luck. From nine to over twenty homeless & needy bring in their laundry and place it in a machine. We provide the quarters, soap, bleach, spot remover, and dryer sheets. While their clothes are washing and drying, they enjoy my homemade bakery items and coffee. We also assist with information for food, cell phones, VA information, and phone numbers for housing. It is fulfilling and rewarding to see these poor souls feel better about themselves and many of them find jobs, housing, etc. because of this project. It costs anywhere from $40 to over $100 a week to do this.

Our funding since last July came from the following: Six Lakes Country Club $860.87, “Laudromart” $425, Auxiliary $400, individuals $201.60, Horse rescue $96.59, Legion lounge cans $79, and 50/50 $60. Individual Auxiliary members have also donated detergent. If anyone wishes to contribute to this worthwhile project, you can do so by placing a donation in the cans at the lounge or by check to ALA UNIT 336 earmarked for Project Suds.

We are at “N. Ft. Myers Laundromart” at 216 Pondella Rd. I would recommend this laundromat if you ever have a need to use one. Their machines are very efficient and the place is kept clean. Stop by any Thursday morning between 8 and 10A.M. to check us & them out.

Hi everyone!

I hope you all had great Father's Day. We were returning from a great convention in Orlando on Father's Day. It always amazes me how big and busy the Auxiliary really is. We do so many wonderful things for our veterans, our children and our Country. We had eight girls go and attended some long but very interesting meetings. Our new Department President is Kelly Becraft and Tina Hanson is our new District President from unit 323 Lehigh. She will be here to install our officers. On that note I want to thank everyone for your love and support for the last three years! It will be in my memories as being one of the things I am most proud of having the opportunity to serve the Auxiliary and being part of the start of project suds and the flag team. I would like to wish Tina all the support given me. Good luck and God bless! Well this feels like the end of my last newsletter so hope to see you around the post on July 4th, installation our meeting or just having a drink!

Hi everyone!

I am writing this after the very emotional ceremony at the cemetery on Memorial Day. It was a beautiful service for all of our fallen veterans. Thank you Commander Bill Gorhan and Sergeant at Arms Randy Eck for putting it all together for us and thank you for those that served our Country!  We went back to our post for food, fun and entertainment!  Judy did a great job taking care of the great food and setting up tables. There are some great cooks in Legion!  Joan Decicca did an awesome job with the Poppies! Over $2000.00. Fran worked Winn-Dixie on Orange Grove both days by herself raising almost $800.00. Diann took poppies to Six Lakes and raised over $200.00 and Dar had a 50/50 making this the record setting Poppy Drive we have ever had. Thank you all that supported and helped. We had our Constitutional Conference and were awarded three trophies and five certificates. Tina Stewart received first place for the A.E.F. and Joan received two second place trophies. One for Girls State and one for Poppies.  Great job ladies. The certificates will be hung in the hallway and trophies are above the cooler.  There will be no Auxiliary dinners in June, July and August. Sorry for any inconvenience, we just don't have enough support in the summer.  Our convention is in June anyone is welcome. Information is on board in the hallway.  Thank you all again for all you do!

Hi everyone!

We had another good month in April. So sorry to see all our snowbirds go back and have our bartender Cindy leave us. You will all be missed! We had a great going away party for Cindy. Thank you for all your support.  It has been a busy month for Auxiliary getting all the reports finished but we got them all finished and turned in at meeting in Lehigh. Great job ladies! There's a lot of work being done behind the scenes. We have Constitutional Conference in Punta Gorda on May 21st at 9:00. There we get our awards!  I was so happy to see the number of people that took the class to learn how to use our new defibrillator and CPR. Hopefully we won't need to use it but nice to know we have it and people trained in case we do. We had a quarter auction at Windmill Village and raised $230.00   for Child's Welfare Fund and $190.00 went to wounded and disabled veterans. Again as always we couldn't do it without your support! Thank you! We are going to have elections on May 9th at 7:00. We have a great group of girls stepping up to take office. Offices are not filled so anyone interested in running please put your name in. Also in May we will be distributing Poppies at three Winn-Dixie' on Sat and Sunday Memorial Day weekend. Volunteers are needed. Please see Joannie or sign up sheet on bulletin board.

Hi everyone!

Hope you had an amazing Easter full of love and friendship!  Judy Griffith took  candy to the school for their Easter party as we do every year. She had Easter pencils, little coloring books and special treats for the children. They are always so grateful! We had district meeting in Pine Island full of great information! We had drawing for Pot of Gold on St. Patrick's Day. The winner was a member and was very excited to have won. We did well raising monies for all our Auxiliary projects. Thanks to all that made it a success! Joan Decicca had a ham basket auction that was fun for Girls State transportation! Way to go Joannie! Our girl that was chosen as Governor went on to take fourth place so we are sorry to say she will not go on to National.  Great girl!   We are very proud of our Girls Staters!  We had district picnic in Bonita and our very own Bunny Jennings raised the most money on her cake they raffled. They sold it for a grand total of sixty dollars. Over $600.00 was also raised for Girls State.  Judy sold eggs with prizes in them and everyone had fun with that also!  We are having a quarter auction at Windmill Village to raise money for the Child's Welfare Fund April 2. 2:00 till 4:00. We still need Auxiliary volunteers for Sunday breakfast. Snowbirds are leaving and so are our helpers. I worked one Sunday this month and had a great time! Nice people to work with. They found me a job I could do and they can for you too. Please help out! We need you! Coming up we have to have reports done so please bring to next meeting April 11th  at 7:00. We are still excepting nominations for officers. So come see who is running or run yourself.

Hello,

As spring continues we have not seen a slowdown of demand for Thursday night chicken wing dinners due to snow bird returnees. In fact we have set new records for dinner sales. A big Thanks to the Kitchen and Floor volunteers for their hard work and dedication and also thanks to the hungry clientele for supporting  your local ALR. We received a nice framed letter of gratitude from SAL for our contribution to their COTA fund drive. We had taken several fun rides last month and will continue to do that into the upcoming months. Also the State ALR Rally is in May this year and will be hosted at the Punta Gorda Legion.

Hi everyone,

Welcome back everyone!  I think you're pretty much all back and so good to see you all. Many of you went to the ball at Ft. Myers Beach Legion and had a really nice time.  They enjoyed a great dinner and entertainment.  As you all know membership dues are due and you will be asked to show your current membership cards at our unit. If you have any questions ask Tina Stewart or you can call me. Let's get our hundred per cent banner again this year!  We had to cancel car wash/ garage sale due to rain so it is rescheduled for Feb.12th. Weather permitting. Watch for flyers. We have many new used items. So come check it out and help our homeless laundry project. We could sure use some help at the sale also.   Our Pot of Gold tickets go on sale again in Feb that is a very important fund raiser for the Auxiliary.  Please help support us. There are $250.00 in raffle tickets with a chance to win thousands! Sandy Eck has graciously agreed again to be our chairperson again. Thanks Sandy! We will be having another great dinner on the first Sat for just $8.00.   I would like to wish you all a happy Valentine's day!

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and wish you all a Happy New Year!   Well we finally made the newspaper! The auxiliary was briefly mentioned for being in the parade for Pearl Harbor day. Thank you all who carried the flags and banner and those that were there to support us! We had a great ceremony back at our unit with Sandy's rededication of the P.O.W. table and Diann demonstration of the children's table. AWESOME job!  The district president also came and said she had a great time and stayed while Tina had the purse auction. That was so much fun and raised lots of money for Auxiliary Emergency Fund that helps members that are having a difficult time in their lives providing food, housing, medicine etc. Good job Tina!   Thank you everyone that participated. Chris Tressel picked up gifts for the children and delivered to the school, making for their merry Christmas. We had two large, much needed donations to continue our laundry project along with Six Lakes continue support! Thank you! You know who you are. We will be having another garage sale and car wash on January 22nd. The newspaper gave us a front page write up with pictures and everything about our laundry project. Love it! So yes we were in the paper twice. Go auxiliary! Membership is still down some so please get your dues paid. It's that time again! Basket of cheer was a success again. One of our biggest fund raisers. Tired of ham and turkey. Jan 2nd dinner is stuffed cabbage, mash pot, applesauce, roll and butter with desert and entertainment. See you there! Hello Riders,

The month of November was quite busy with all our northern friends returning.  On Nov. 11th we rode to the Seminole Indian Reservation for a Veteran’s Ceremony.  A number of us won door prizes and had a wonderful lunch.  From there we continued our ride to Punta Gorda where Gov. Rick Scott was present for the ground breaking for the SW Florida Vietnam Memorial Wall. Thursday evening dinners and Show Me the Moolah continue to grow as snow birds return. Tickets are available for our second lottery and cash drawing. Tickets are available from any ALR member or at the bar. On a sad note our heartfelt condolences go out to Lynn Porter (Zig Zag Girl #1) on the passing of her mother and also to Gary and Linda Moore on the unexpected loss of their grandson.

Hello Riders,

We rode to Punta Gorda and presented our $2000.00 donation to the Southwest Florida Vietnam Memorial Wall Committee. The project is moving forward overall, but is currently stalled due to a design setback regarding the structure itself. The committee wants a wall that is a scaled down, but exact replica, version of the wall in Washington. These details apparently were not reflected in the original estimate, so the cost has gone up accordingly. We hope to see a turn around soon.

Next weekend is our overnight ride around lake O. If you haven't done so already, be sure to make your reservation at Roland Martins and put your rain gear in your saddle bags!

Hi everyone,

We had a great convention! We had elections, settled lots of issues and got a lot of work done. Diann Dircz got an award in leadership and of course Tina Stewart got an award for membership. We are very proud of them and all their hard work. We have a great group of women working hard for our Auxiliary. We had a nice group of girls that went to convention. A couple went for the first time. It's always good to see new interest. Our flag folding team is also putting together a program at two schools to teach the meaning of the folds in our flag. We are proud of them also. Thanks to all our Auxiliary for making our unit a happy and fun place to come.  I wish you all a great and safe Fourth of July!

Hi everyone,

All our northern friends have gone back up north but we did pull off a nice Memorial Day. We collected almost $2,000 in Poppy funds. We had more food than we could all eat, entertainment and a great ceremony at the cemetery. Thanks to all for a great job and for all the help! Special thanks to our Poppy kings that helped out Robert and Jeff. Our remaining undefeated Poppy queen is Franny and thank you Kathy for your hard work too! As you know we had our elections and the new officers will be listed on back of newsletter after installation.  Installation of officers will be held on Monday July 20th at 6:00pm. Thank you all for coming out to vote! That's what makes it all keep working. I look forward to another year! Thanks for the opportunity to do it again.
The auxiliary is taking a break for the summer on dinners. So we will have no dinners in June. We should all be proud of the year we had! We were awarded two first place trophies, two second and one certificate. Check them out, they are on top of beer cooler in post. Way to go all!

Hello Riders and all Post 336 members,

First an announcement: due to the annual summer slow down, beginning in June, Thursday night chicken wing dinners and the Show Me the Moolah game will be suspended until the first Thursday evening of September.

January 16, 2016 is the date for our 5th annual Statewide ride-in in support of the Legacy Fund to be hosted by our ALR. More to come as details unfold.

Our recent attendance at the 3-day State ALR Ride-in at Post 24 in Bradenton was a blast. Beer, Bands, Food, local rides along the beach and out in the county, raffles, and a fabulous Tiki Bar made it a most memorable weekend.

Your ALR at work: Due to some very hard work by our volunteers and support from our fellow post members, we have replenished our coffers and in keeping with our mission have donated this year to the following charities and entities: American legion post 336 ($2,500.00 and $150.00); Miles of Smiles PTSD organization ($1,000.00); American Legion Legacy Fund ($650.00); Wounded warrior Anglers of America ($675.00); Fisher House veteran Charities ($1,975.00); Nobie, the young daughter of a Labelle post member, who suffers severely from EB ($500.00); other local charities (approx. $1000).

Hi all!

We had our appreciation dinner and thanks to Dar all went well. She had to take the lists everyone turned in sort them out so everyone got only one certificate. Then print everyone of them herself. She organized and prepared our dinner. Thank you Dar. I also would like to give a special thanks to Nina for all the hard work she does for our breakfast and our unit. A lot of the things we do we could not do without the hard work that Nina does. She is a solid gold member! We had a wonderful time at our country dance. Good food, fun and the cutest cowboys and cowgirls. I would like to wish all our ladies a happy Mother's Day. We have our elections this month. So please come out and vote. We will not be having early voting this year. So please come to our regular meeting at 7:00 to vote on May 11th. Thank you all!  We also have Memorial Day this month so get your poppies! We also need help at the stores so see Cathy, grab a can and help us for an hour or two distributing poppies.  On Monday we will have our service at cemetery and salute to our veterans at the post. See you all there! Have a safe and happy holiday weekend!

Hi Everyone,  Hope you all had a great Christmas and wish you all a wonderful, healthy and prosperous New Year.

We delivered all the Christmas presents to the school.  We were able to not only give gifts on giving tree but an extra 2 gifts per child thanks to your generosity.  These children are so grateful!

We also delivered gifts to Suncoast Community Center in North Fort Myers.

As usual our unit went far beyond what was asked of you – Thank you!

We are having another car wash, garage sale and bake sale on January 9th from 10:00am – 3:00pm.

If you have anything to sell or baked goods just call Dee at 910-1752 and she will make arrangements to get to the old building.  This is for our homeless and homeless Veterans.  They wash the cars to raise their own money for laundry.

The old building is coming along very well.  Thanks to Teri, Lynn and Diann for all their hard work.  We can’t forget our new Legion member Doug who has helped so much and of course Paul Hanlon.

With the passing of our Commander “Cotton” the Charter was draped at the last meeting.  Keep all those with health issues in your prayers and say a prayer for our youth serving thier country at this time.

American Legion Riders News:

Hello Riders,

It has been a sad month with the passing of our Commander.  We paid our respects to Cotton’s family and friends at the Memorial Service.

However, we did manage one neat group ride along the bars and beaches of Manasota Key.  Good food, good drinks and good friendship.

Please make the October meeting.  We will be voting on the charity for the January Poker Run
